Domestic Violence Awareness Month: #1Thing Campaign

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and here at Enlightened Equipment we support the mission to help end domestic violence. This October we are partnering with our local Women's Resource Center in Winona, MN and together we are supporting the #1Thing campaign created by the Domestic Violence Awareness Project.

Change can start with only #1Thing. One person’s actions may seem insignificant, but together a communities' collective “#1Things” can lead to real social transformation. We ask that you also participate in the campaign by sharing a photo on Instagram or Facebook with the #1Thing you can do to help end domestic violence. You can download the #1Thing photo card here. Don't forget to share it with us by using also using the #EnlightenedEquipment.

Check out some statistics retrieved from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence that help convey why ending domestic violence is so important.

  • On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. That's nearly 20 in the time it will take to read this.
  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
  • On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.

This is a very serious issue that is also complicated because of the many forms abuse can take. For many victims it is not easy or safe to escape. We know this is just a small step forward in the work that needs to be done, but it is a step and we encourage you to take one too. Domestic violence affects many people and it needs to end.
