Holy crap
These things are light!
They came shipped in a standard envelope size package and weighed we exactly 1.2oz for a Large 30" in 7D.
The fit is perfect for me over running shorts and/or tights. I'm 5'9 185 with a 32" waist.
Only thing I could see adding or changing would be the securing method for the pant leg openings. A small diameter elastic shock cord and micro cord lock in each leg might be a little more functional than the snaps and perminant elastic currently used.
They breathe great, although I don't really wear pants at all while moving. I would definitely recommend and buy again.
So light that I forgot I had them.
I got them for an extra layer in cold weather. Honestly I haven’t been able to use them. I’m sure they are fine. Definitely reduced some oz’s in my pack.
Peace
Copperfield Pants!!!
I used to decide if I wanted to bring my 10oz rain pants on each backing adventure. Now the I have my copperfield wind pants I vary them all the time. Weighing less than 2ozs, they are always in my pack. Really you should change the name from “copper” to “GOLD”
Perfect
I used these for my only wind/rain protection on my AZT thru-hike in and in the Cordillera Blanca's in 2019. They really performed well. They were all I needed on my legs to keep me warm in the early mornings in temps down to 25F. I also slept in them at night if I needed a little extra warmth inside my quilt. Additionally, I wear them in town when I'm doing my laundry.
Pants are great
I like the pants but cannot truthfully say how good they are until I'm out on trail. I bought the custom in a dark color so I could wear them while doing laundry. I also have an EE rain skirt so will go between these depending on conditions. You can see my unboxing and basic review of my Torrid Jacket and these wind pants here: https://youtu.be/1KQOq3yHzj4
Copperfield wind jacket and pants
Best by far of all the wind clothes
I've used , excelled on the CDT . Thin and light , I was able to wear them longer without over heating , nice to wear under rain shell too on cold , wet days . I used the 7d version .
We bought the heaviest weight versions
As long as you don't mind that the material is shiny, these are excellent off-trail pants. We took them on a 5 day through the Shenandoah, We used them twice, once when we stopped at skyland for an indoor night, and then at big meadows to wash our clothes. At about 2 ounces they were just what we each wanted to carry. I would also note that while they are not advertised as rain gear, they seem to be waterproof.
10D charcoal
Amazingly light, the rated 1.4 oz for Medium 32" agrees with my scale. The fabric is very comfortable over skin, wearing over shorts. It cuts the wind well. The leg snaps are at the bottom, not at the ankle, so the legs flap against each other a little when walking. I tied a couple of light shock cord loops which I put over my ankles to prevent the flapping and that works well.
The charcoal 10D fabric has the look of a light black plastic garbage bag, but it certainly is functional. Suggested improvements- a short velcro strap at ankle to hold fabric tight against leg (my Montane pants have that) and slightly heavier shock cord in the waist- add 1 gram for the next heavier cord. Still, an excellent product and I'm happy to have and will use regularly.
Copperfield wind pants
I love these pants, I can start off a day in the low 40s with just running shorts and pull them off when I get a light sweat going, light rain, snow and fog are no problem and they pack infinitesimally small— I even pack them in my small crossbody when I’m in the city for work on blustery and rainy days.
Paid for themselves within a few months.
Copperfield Men’s Pants
Extremely happy with the product, fit/cut, service and communication. These are extremely (amazingly?) fragile but I expected that. They pack down to almost nothing and weigh almost nothing. Impressive product and I hope I can hold on to them for at least a few years. Otherwise they would better qualify as “disposable income.”
Great product
I used these pants on some very cold and windy days on the AT. Amazed how much more warmth my legs retained after putting these on over my running tights. Super light weight, would go hiking without them!!
Good wind pants for hiking.
I ordered a custom pair of pair of Copperfield wind pants because I could get a shorter inseam. The pants are made of 20D and pack very small, taking up virtually no space in my pack. The stitching is excellent and waist seems true to size. The length is perfect and I like the snap adjustment at the bottom. I have had a chance to use these on a couple of day hikes so far and am very pleased with their performance. The only issue I seem to have is that this material seems to have a static cling which mats the pants to the bottom of you legs while hiking. Maybe it is due to how new they are and that will change. I did cross paths with a hiker when I was out in Arizona and he had a pair. I asked him if he had that same issue and he said no, but he had worn them almost daily on his AZT thru hike at that point in the morning to keep warm and they had probably 150+ miles of wear by then. I have washed mine in some mild detergent by hand, but that did not resolve the "cling" thus far.
7d Wind Pant
I love these pants so far. Sizing was spot on. Great as an extra sleep layer they keep me very warm and allow for bringing a slightly cooler quilt without having to carry heavy leggings. My only complaint is that I wish there was one extra button to tighten the ankle a little bit snugger but this is a very minor issue and the current adjustment level does not hinder the user in any way. I am able to get these pants on and off over my trail runners very easily.
perfect
I used them over shorts while hiking in New York last month and they were perfect. Light and compact in my pack and cut the wind on the summit and after dark on the trip back home.
Perfect minimalist windpant
First off the sizing is spot on, I typically wear a 30-32 waist and a 32-33 inseam, I ordered the medium with a 32 inseam and they fit perfect. These are replacing a pair of rain pants from OR, while the Copperfield pants are not waterproof I found I was typically only wearing the pants for wind/bug protection anyways and wanted a lighter option - these saved almost 4oz off of my BW. The pants are sheer but not completely see through (charcoal 10d), I wouldn't go commando underneath them but they're fine with underwear/shorts under them. The pants have a great feel to them and aren't plasticky feeling and shed wind well. They ball up to nearly nothing in size and are easy to pack away in an outside pocket on my pack making them handy. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and can't wait to put many more miles on these pants!
Correct Inseam length
I love the pants like the other reviewers, but I wanted to talk a little about sizing. The pants are generously cut. Yet, they don't sag down low in the crotch. I am relieved about this, because I plan to wear my shorts over the wind pants for protection when sitting on rocks and logs.
One thing that was not clear to me before purchasing, was the details of the snap closure, at the ankles. I like this feature, but I notice that it shortens the inseam length a bit, when the ankle snaps are fastened. I am between a 30" and a 32" inseam length, depending on brands. Having asked the support staff at EE for their advise, they recommended sizing up in inseam length. I ordered the 32" inseam. This was a very good suggestion, and I am glad that I followed that advice. I am confidant about layering these pants with shorts over them, and the pants still having adequate length to cover my ankles. Thank-you!
Copperfield Wind Pants are dope!
I have a pair of the purple (10D but not too revealing) for an extra layer when cold/blocking wind/chillin' while shorts dry after swimming/keeping skeeters' at bay/being fashionable AF at camp and in town. And for all those purposes they are great! They weigh nearly nothing and can fit (fairly comfortably) in your running shorts pocket. I'm really rough on my gear and have not torn them after a few hundred miles and moderate use. I am 6' 160lbs. and typically wear a 32/32 and the small/32 fit a hair tight (not too tight though). Lack of sizing info is the only reason for the 4 stars. Good product!
Quality addition to my UL kit
This year I made the switch from hiking in pants/convertibles to running shorts and (when needed) leggings. For cool evenings and mornings where you don't quite need leggings these wind pants are great. They also come in handy to put on at camp for bug protection. I got a 20D fabric and find that they have held up well so far and haven't been sweaty or sticky. So the layering options have been great and I'm pretty geeked that I can have shorts, leggings, these wind pants, and a rain kilt/skirt all for a combined weight that is at or below my old convertibles.
