"I got the jacket in 7D and absolutely love it! I’m 200lb and 6’2”, got it in large and it fits perfect. I wear it almost every day... Took it to skiing as a mid layer on slopes and just around town over a tshirt. I like it a lot better than a down jacket, water resistant, super light and warm. Can’t say enough good things about it." - Alex Vayman

Fantastic 3-season puffy/jacket and 4-season active/mid-layer.

I've purchased 2 of these jackets. One for day-to-day urban use and the other one for camping. The newer one (bought May 2019) has improved cuffs/elastic cords (a bit wider) but overall they're pretty much the same it looks like. The newer model also has larger pockets, the older model had somewhat tiny pockets. The newer pockets are more "normal" sized and fits your hand more comfortably.

The first jacket I bought was in April 2018 so that's about ~1.5 years ago. This is and has been my go-to jacket ever since then. I wear it pretty much every single day. It surprisingly replaced my beloved Helly Hansen RIGGING COAT during all 4-seasons. Along with the Torrid I bring a lightweight rain jacket and I'm set for almost all weather. It's much warmer than my Rigging Coat due to its cinched snug fit along the waist, cuffs and hood (no wind/drafts) along with its puffiness. The system weighs nothing comparatively and is less than half the price. Not as much or as big pockets, though. I used to carry so much unnecessary stuff in those pockets.

The zippers are a bit fiddly if you aren't used to them but they are reliable once you know how to use them. Pull outward from your torso while zipping up so as to not snag into the loose inside fabric. If it snags (which never happens once you get used to the zipper), it's easy to un-snag with some gentle pulling and unzipping.

The cuffs are elastic and can be hard to get your hand through if you wear a big watch. With a big watch it will always snag and you have to use your other hand to help get it through. The newer models (After May 2019) have a wider cuff that makes this much more easier.

I've since switched to a cheap, simple and slim CASIO F-91W watch and never have this problem anymore. Used to own a big GARMIN FENIX 5S which I sold (short battery life etc).

Slipping your hand through the cuffs pulls some of the inside fabric out with it most of the time, it's not an issue, just put it back. The benefit for the loose fit far outweighs this minor inconvenience.

Having said all that, these jackets are fantastic! Particularly in Northern European 3-season climates (wet and cold, even in summer). They are warm even when WET and DRY quickly unlike traditional down jackets. The 2oz/67g fill APEX seems to be perfect for any and all 3-season situations and great as an active mid-layer during winter.

I can use these during light/medium rain without any issue and have never felt wet with one of these on. For heavy rain I throw on a light rain jacket and haven't had any problems.

Hiking with a backpack I usually just wear merino baselayers ( Brynje Wool Thermo A-Shirt (fishnet tanktop) + Särmä Henley Shirt, Merino Wool ) and sometimes throw on a rain/wind jacket. If it's really cold I will throw this puffy on while hiking. The way it handles moisture and dry's so quickly works amazingly well as an active mid/outer-layer during winter.

It's a great thing to throw on when packing up and starting your hike on colder 3-season mornings but will probably get too hot after a few minutes of hiking.

It doesn't pack as small as comparably warm down jackets but weight is in similar range. And due to its high resistance to water it's a lot more versatile. If a traditional down jacket gets wet it's useless and heavy and takes ages to dry.

Having said that, in winter you should bring a down jacket along with this puffy to keep you warm when stationary in the extreme cold. In the extreme cold you don't really have to worry about your down jacket getting wet ( unless you hike in it, which you shouldn't need to ). Throw a ~300g Down Puffy on-top of your Torrid APEX jacket for an awesome, versatile and layered 4-season system.

Can't wait to take it on the trail

tl;dr I love this jacket.

I've been using an ultralight down puffy for all my backpacking trips this year. It's pretty good hasn't been quite warm enough. The APEX has so much more loft and is incredible warm. I got it with the 10D outside 7D inside and it's surprisingly light. I'm looking forward to using it on the wetter winter camping trips out here in California.
