A favorite of long distance hikers, the Torrid Jacket offers warmth, wind protection, and moisture resistance at an ultralight weight. Designed to keep you warm while keeping your pack light, the jacket starts at just 4.9 ounces (139g). Built using 2oz/yd² CLIMASHIELD™ APEX synthetic insulation, the Torrid maintains warmth and breathability even when damp.

The smooth ultralight nylon fabric has a durable water repellent finish for better performance in light precipitation. The adjustable waistband and elastic cuffs keep warmth in and cold out. The optional hood adjusts with a shock cord, and a grosgrain zipper garage at the chin increases comfort. Zippered pockets keep the essentials at hand. The Torrid Jacket is slightly oversized to accommodate layers, and has raglan sleeves for a full range of movement. For those who won’t let weather get in the way, the Torrid Jacket is the perfect 3-season layer.

Packs light, keeps me warm.

First impressions: I got this jacket to stay warm at camp while bike packing, lowest temps I've used it in so far was about 30F, with a wool base layer and a wool mid-layer, and I was quite toasty. My only negative is that the hood has a slightly odd shape (or maybe my head does?), there just seems to be a lot of excess bulk in the forehead area, not a huge issue, it just looks kinda funny, but then I (mostly) bought this for function not esthetics, and so far it functions excellently. The shape is also on the boxy side (which I am not) so if that bothers you, it may not be for you. Finally I will say that I am 5'6 and typically a size 4-6 on top and a medium fit me well with room to spare for layering.

My jacket with hood kept me warm outside. I typically had just a merino wool 150 t-shirt and bra on under and felt warm in guessing 40's F and maybe 30's F. Wore more at lower temperatures. My husband thought I might look funny in the jacket based on the pictures online, but was pleasantly surprised that it looked good on me in person. I did navy outer and graphite inside. It felt very comfortable. I'm always colder than my husband, and was shocked when he had his down jacket on and was more layers than I because of the cold. I'm 5' 7" 120lbs, thin with a long torso. I bought a small and it worked well. I would have paid more for extra torso length had the option existed to go lower on by backside (it fit to hips would have liked even lower) but definitely did not need more room inside the jacket. Hiked in the jacket for a couple hours twice, and did not get over sweaty. Very happy with the purchase and will use this in future backpacking trips and hopefully one day the PCT!
