Created for those who want to pack light and go far no matter the weather, the Visp rain jacket boasts wind and rain protection in an ultralight package. Made with a customized 3-layer waterproof/breathable fabric, it’s fully stormproof, yet has an exceptionally breathable feel. Weighing in at around 5 ounces for most sizes, you’ll barely know it’s in your pack until you need it.

The customized 3-layer fabric combines ultralight 7D ripstop nylon, a waterproof/breathable ePTFE membrane, and a soft tricot lining for a comfortable next-to-skin feel. A waterproof YKK Uretek front zipper keeps moisture from coming in the front. The hood adjusts along the front and the back, so you can keep it in place while maintaining your peripheral vision. The waistband adjusts with a light shock cord, and the droptail hem offers extra coverage in the back so it doesn’t ride up under your pack. The generous sleeve length is built for hand coverage, and the wrists adjust with a durable velcro cuff tab. You can wear the Visp alone to shed wind and rain, or pair it with a Torrid APEX jacket for a highly effective, ultralight jacket system.

Womens Visp Jacket

I have not had a lot of opportunity to test this jacket yet, but my limited experience with it shows that it is a great piece of gear. I wore it on a short 3.5 mile hike. I started in light/moderate rainfall while I was laboring uphill and it kept me dry and I didn't get wet from inside sweating. I was very warm, but I never felt like I was wetting out from the inside. I did open the pit zips for venting. When the rain stopped, the terrain had leveled out but it was fairly windy at this point, so I kept the jacket on. That is one of the best things about this jacket: I didn't feel like I wanted to take it off. Even when conditions improved and it was warmer, I still felt comfortable wearing it. The fabric is a little "crinkly" but not nearly as bad as another big name rain jacket that I own. The fabric is quite comfortable next to skin.
I was concerned about sizing because I am on the line between sizes, but it fits pretty good. Sleeves are too long for me, but that allows me to cover my hands if I want to. I am 5'3"-ish and 120 lbs and I ordered the small. The jacket fits me while wearing a fleece pullover and a midweight insulated jacket, a big plus because then it will be usable in all four seasons. I love that the length is long enough, which is sometimes difficult to find in womens clothing.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because I don't know how it will hold up long-term. The fabric is very light and thin. Also, the cost made it hard to pull the trigger and order it. However, the weight of this thing is amazing, and the performance so far has shown that the cost may be worth it. I don't hesitate to bring the Visp with me on any outing because it packs so light and small. The bonus is that buying this jacket will be supporting a Made in America business. Thanks for another quality product, EE!
