We asked Jakob a few questions about his design, his inspiration for the submission, and where you can find more of his future work.
Tell us about your design. What inspired its creation?
In short, I wanted to create something that resembled the backcountry (mountains) and Enlightened Equipment (feather), while not making the graphic scream for attention. It had to be sort of minimal. The mountains on the shirt are made up, but with me liking the PCT so much, it should come to no surprise that I got some inspiration from the Sierras.
How did you find EE? What made you want to submit to the contest?
A few years ago I watched a video from “Darwin onthetrail” showing his Torrid Apex jacket. As I got deeper into the hiking bubble, I discovered more and more people using your gear. Even though hiking is quite different here in Germany I do enjoy it. Other than that, I like being creative. So naturally, most of the projects I do for fun are themed around the outdoors.
Are you a professional artist, or do you do it as a hobby?
I am not a professional artist. I am just a guy who likes being creative in his free time so I make random projects just for fun or occasionally flyers for friends.
What are your socials (Instagram, Tiktok, FB, etc.) How can people find your art?
Until recently I only had a private Instagram-account. I had planned to make a public account in the future, but with all of this happening, I think it´s about the right time. If I have any news related to hiking and creativity this is the place to go now :) —> jakobbr_
Anything else you’d like to share?
When I first watched a video about the AT (from “Darwin onthetrail”) I was amazed by the idea, that people would walk across a country for several months. Then "Elina Osborne" released her PCT videos. This is one reason why I want to attempt the PCT in the future myself. Thank you to all the people who are part of the hiking community. You have inspired me and you are responsible for where I am at right now and for what I have planned in the future.
