The Recon bivy keeps you protected from splashes, ground moisture, and bugs during all your adventures. With no-see-um mesh panels over the head and torso, the Recon boasts excellent ventilation and moisture control. To keep you dry, there’s a 5.5 inch bathtub floor made with waterproof 15D silnylon. The side and top fabric panels are made with our customized ultralight nylon, with a durable water repellent finish to shed dew and frost.

A center zipper runs the length of the mesh window, making it easy to set up your sleep system and get in and out of the Recon. A shock cord suspends the head and foot ends to give you increased interior space. Stake loops and stiffeners at the bathtub corners allow you to quickly stake out the bivy and maintain the bathtub’s shape. You can pair the bivy with our Rival or Rival Duo tarp for an ultralight shelter with full weather protection.

If you are interested in a different color consider purchasing a pair of custom Recon Bivy

2,500 Mile Review

Overall, the bug protection is excellent, and it's quite durable for the weight. Pitches absolutely everywhere, even with a single pole and line if you get creative. The corners can be guyed out with rocks in lieu of stakes, which is handy on wooden tent pads, or slabs.

The only recurring issue I've had with it is that the corner stays pop out. I've had to Tenacious Tape all four back into place over time. I'd love to see the 15D floor extended into a solid head and foot panel, then the rest using the same lightweight nylon upper. These are the areas most likely to get wet with a tarp pitched in the typical "A frame" configuration. The nylon upper will NOT stop rain directly, but it will keep "secondary rain" (splashes) out.

Moving the head shock cord attachment point a few inches inward would be a good teak (angle the head panel in the process) otherwise It's a great hybrid bivy. Totally worth the money, and I would buy again.

Not durable

Pro's. 1. Light 2. Compact. 3. Nice material.
Con's. 1. Fragile (may be stitching quality or a problem with the design. Mine had one of the corner support rods poke through the stiching.) 2.Hard to get in and out esp. When under a tarp. 3. The mesh would lay on my face eliminating the mosquito protection. I had to secure both ends of the elastic cord to my tarp to get enough tension to keep the m.h mesh off my face. 4. Set up is much harder than a tent.
Note: I have only used this once
